About The Artist
Phillip Hazard was born in Nottinghamshire in 1956. Having served
an apprenticeship in engineering and establishing himself as an
expert in this field he saw the opportunity to use his welding skills
in combination with his brilliant eye for detail to produce artworks
of stunning vitality.
Phillip's love of animals and nature inspires both his mythical
/ historical creations and faithful recreations of birds, horses,
dogs and the human form in a wide range of guises.
The technique Phillip uses could not be more difficult to master.
This gives every painstakingly produced sculpture not only it's
own uniqueness but an individuality of texture and design that is
very rarely seen. No two sculptures are the same and no molds or
mass production techniques are employed.
A manual / electric form of arc welding is used to shape Steel,
Stainless Steel and Copper into structures which take on the power
of the technique used to produce them. This is a modern art-form
with roots firmly established within the realms of the great sculptors
of the Renaissance. It is an art form that could not have existed
until the 19th century and is unlikely to to be taken up by any
significant number of artists in the future due to it's physical
and mental demands.
Phillip Hazard is a true artist who is faithful to his subject
and dedicated to his work. |
